D2 Survivors file setup
I compared the official FAQ, the download page, and changelog builds 20261018.4, 20261018.5, and 20261018.8. The extra MPQ names below are listed by one guide site only, and I mark them that way.
Two valid file sets
The game accepts Diablo II with Lord of Destruction at patch 1.14, or Diablo II: Resurrected. It reads the local art and sound. It does not upload that folder. You cannot skip this step. The legal page says hosted copies of the game files are going away.
For classic Lord of Destruction, pick the folder that contains d2data.mpq, not a shortcut and not the game exe. The official download page names d2data.mpq specifically. A setup guide at d2survivors.com also lists d2char.mpq, d2sfx.mpq, d2exp.mpq, and patch_d2.mpq as required, plus optional music and speech archives. Only d2data.mpq is confirmed on the official download page. The rest are single-source.
Diablo II: Resurrected and Battle.net
For Resurrected, choose the install directory. Build 20261018.8 also accepts the Steam library that holds that install. If the game says the files do not match, repair the Battle.net or Steam install first. That note is in build 20261019.2 and in the same setup guide.
Browser storage is estimated at about 1.1 GB by d2survivors.com only. I am not treating that number as official. The desktop app's 1.5 GB disk figure is on the official download page.
Why it asks you to extract every time
The intended path is: pick the folder once, wait for the copy into browser storage, then play. If it asks every visit, do not start by deleting site data. That also deletes the save.
Check these first: you were in a private window, you switched browser profile or domain, the storage quota is full, or Safari deleted the site data after a week without a visit. Build 20261020.3 calls out the Safari case. If the error is Not a DCC file, there is no general fix published. Record the build and the text, then use Esc → REPORT.
- Open the official play setup and choose your own files.
- Select the D2 or D2R folder, not a shortcut.
- Wait until processing finishes.
- Return to the main menu and start a run.
- If it asks again, check storage before you clear anything.
Questions
Can I play D2 Survivors without Diablo II?
No. You need Lord of Destruction 1.14 or Diablo II: Resurrected. Hosted file copies are being removed.
Why does it extract every time?
It should store the files after one pick. A repeat prompt usually means private mode, a new profile, a full disk quota, or Safari dropping the site data.
Which Battle.net folder do I pick?
The Diablo II: Resurrected install directory, or the Steam library that contains it, as of build 20261018.8.

Source scope: the developer's FAQ, changelog, client and leaderboards are one publisher, not independent corroboration. Build-specific figures and leaderboard numbers without an explicit external corroboration are single-source records at the date above. A video title alone does not verify numbers inside the video.
